Speaking on Bolga FM’s Zina Yela programme, the Upper East Regional Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Ayinbisa Ayamga, confirmed that prices of some essential commodities, including maize, cooking oil, fuel, and rice, have started declining.
However, he noted that the prices of many other items, particularly prepared foods and household goods, remain high, raising concerns about whether consumers are truly benefiting from recent economic improvements. He stressed the need for collective action to ensure that price reductions translate into meaningful relief for the public.
“We are seeing improvements in the cedi, and inflation is slowing. It is time for businesses to reflect this in their pricing. I appeal to GUTA and other stakeholders to support this effort so Ghanaians can truly feel the recovery,” he stated.
According to him, the issue requires a nationwide response. “We believe this must be a national effort. We are calling for a national campaign for price reductions. If others also respond, it will reflect positively in the lives of ordinary Ghanaians,” he added.
Mr. Ayinbisa commended the government for stabilizing the economy but urged it to deliver fully on the promises outlined in its manifesto. He also noted that, as he seeks re-election to retain his position as the party’s Regional Communication Director, the NPP will continue to hold the NDC-led government accountable to its commitments to Ghanaians.
