Ghana’s former Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Boniface Gambila Adagbila, has thrown his weight behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) prepares for its January 31 flagbearer race.
Speaking to Gerard Asagi on the Day Break Upper East show, Mr. Adagbila described Dr. Bawumia as the unifier the party needs at this critical moment.
“The one today who can solve the problem of fragmentation is Dr. Bawumia. The way he came in, we all see him as a humble and neutral person who is ready to work with all members,” he said.
Mr. Adagbila noted that one key strength of Dr. Bawumia is the well-rounded interventions he has proposed, which he said are designed to benefit party members at all levels.
“This issue of ‘I have not gotten this’ or ‘I have not gotten that,’ or the need to force one’s way forward to grab, will not be there. That is one thing I admire about Dr. Bawumia,” he added.
He also cited Dr. Bawumia’s strong interest in the use of technology to address national challenges, particularly in reducing human-to-human interactions, which he believes will help curb corruption.
The New Patriotic Party is scheduled to hold its presidential flagbearer election on January 31, 2026, with five aspirants contesting the position. The race includes former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, and other senior party figures who have declared their intentions to lead the party. Delegates from across the country are expected to vote in the exercise, which forms part of the NPP’s reorganisation efforts ahead of the 2028 general elections, as campaign activities intensify nationwide.
