The Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, says the government is intensifying efforts to address rising criminal activities across the region, including motorbike snatching and robberies in key market centres.

Speaking at the first press soiree under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, Mr. Atanga said coordinated security interventions are being rolled out in communities such as Talensi, Zaare, Vea and Soe, as well as other parts of the region affected by crime.

According to him, the approach combines strengthened security operations with community engagement, particularly through the formation and activation of market security committees to support law enforcement agencies. “We are actively addressing criminal activities, including motor snatching and robberies, through coordinated security interventions and community engagement, especially market security committees,” he said.

The Regional Minister emphasized that involving traders and local leaders in security efforts is key to improving intelligence gathering and ensuring safer marketplaces across the Upper East Region.
