Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) practitioner Issah Toha Shamsoo has called on young people across Ghana to rise above political, ethnic, and religious differences and take collective responsibility for building a peaceful and inclusive nation.

He made the call while speaking to A1 News during a stakeholder consultation on Ghana’s National Action Plan on Youth, Peace and Security, organized by the National Youth Authority (NYA) and held at the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs Auditorium in Bolgatanga.

He cautioned against the notion that young people are merely the future of the country, stressing that without action in the present, there may be no stable future to inherit. According to him, youth have both the responsibility and obligation to safeguard the present while shaping the future they desire.

He expressed optimism about the commitment shown by young participants at the consultation, noting that dozens of youth from diverse backgrounds demonstrated readiness to serve as peace ambassadors within their communities. This, he said, reflects a growing determination among young people to promote peace, unity, and social cohesion.

He further emphasized that a united youth front has the potential to address long-standing challenges such as unemployment, underdevelopment, and inequality. In his view, national divisions weaken progress, while collective action strengthens development and accountability.

The YPS practitioner, who also facilitated the engagement, encouraged young people to see peacebuilding as a foundation for economic opportunity, arguing that a peaceful and inclusive society creates conditions where fairness, merit, and development can thrive.

He added that young people nationwide must mobilize around peace, resilience, and inclusiveness, expressing confidence that a prosperous and stable Ghana is achievable if the youth work together toward a shared national vision.
