NPP must share responsibility for 2024 loss, not blame Dr. Bawumia alone – Tangoba Abayage

A former Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayage, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should not single out Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for blame over the party’s defeat in the 2024 general election, urging members to accept collective responsibility instead.

Speaking to A1 Radio ahead of the party’s January 31 presidential primaries, Ms. Abayage said the electoral setback should not be used as justification to abandon Bawumia’s candidacy.

“It cannot be pinned directly on him. We all must take collective responsibility,” she said. “Every person in the New Patriotic Party must take responsibility for what happened.”

She likened the situation to a business investment, arguing that political capital already invested in Bawumia should not be discarded after one loss.

“If you are a serious business person and you invest heavily, you don’t throw away that investment because of one mishap,” she said. “You go back and build on it.”

According to Ms. Abayage, the party has already invested significantly in Bawumia by making him vice president and previously selecting him as flagbearer.

“There is no place you go in this country where they don’t know Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” she said. “He is our best choice going into 2028.”

She stressed that the focus should be on rebuilding and unity rather than internal blame.
