Dr. Bawumia like Apostle Paul: came later, but made greater impact — Abayage

Former Upper East Regional Minister Tangoba Abayage says political impact, not length of time in a party, should determine leadership, as she rallied support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the New Patriotic Party’s upcoming presidential primaries.

In an interview with A1 Radio, Ms. Abayage rejected claims that Dr. Bawumia is a relative newcomer compared to some long-standing party figures.

“It doesn’t matter how long you have been in a society. What matters is your impact,” she said.

She used a biblical analogy, comparing Dr. Bawumia’s political journey to that of Paul the Apostle, who she noted made a significant impact despite not being among Jesus Christ’s original 12 disciples.

“Paul came later but ended up spreading the gospel far and wide,” she said, arguing that Dr. Bawumia has made a greater impact than many long-time party members.

Ms. Abayage also described Dr. Bawumia as the party’s most marketable candidate, saying both he and the NPP have invested heavily in each other over the years.

“The party has invested so much in him — making him vice president, marketing him across the country,” she said. “You don’t throw away such an investment.”

She urged delegates to support Dr. Bawumia in the primaries, saying his national recognition, governance experience and perceived credibility make him best positioned to lead the party into the 2028 elections.
