The Assembly Member for the Atiibabisi Electoral Area in the Kassena Nankana West District, Akandi Wigbert, has raised concerns over the lack of electricity in most parts of the area, describing it as a major barrier to business growth and development.

He said only the Kandiga market area is connected to the national grid, leaving the rest of the electoral area without power.

“The electricity problem is just a headache for us. If you look at my electoral area, only the market has electricity. All sections of the communities are without light. Now, people want to do business, but they can’t because there’s no light,” he told A1 News.

According to Mr. Akandi, the situation is affecting economic activities and children’s education, as many students are unable to study at home at night.

“Nowadays, if you want to run a serious business, you need electricity to support you. At the same time, children want to study in their houses, but there’s no light,” he said.

The Assembly Member noted that the District Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament for the area are aware of the situation. However, he said only about 15% of the community currently has access to electricity.

He appealed to the government to prioritize the area and extend electricity to the remaining communities to improve livelihoods and development.
