The Chief of Feo in the Bongo District has appealed for urgent government intervention to address security risks and major development gaps in the community, including the establishment of an official immigration post.
Naba Azaare Anyenaba made the appeal during a ceremony at the Feo CHPS compound, where Ghana GOIL PLC donated hospital beds to the facility. He said the lack of basic social infrastructure continues to hinder growth and livelihoods in the area.
The chief noted that several communities, including Asebre, Asebdoone, Ayugte and parts of Soe, remain unconnected to the national electricity grid, limiting economic activities and social integration. He also cited challenges in health care, education, road infrastructure and access to potable water.
Raising security concerns, Naba Anyenaba said Feo has one of the largest border stretches in the Bongo District and shares a boundary with Burkina Faso, yet lacks an official border post. According to him, the absence of a formal immigration presence has left the area vulnerable, with cross-border movement occurring without proper checks.
“All the vehicles passing through Feo do so illegally,” he said, urging the government and the Ministry of the Interior to consider establishing an official entry point in the community to improve security screening and generate revenue for the state.
He added that improved street lighting along border areas would enhance visibility and security.
The chief also thanked Edward Abambire Bawa, former Member of Parliament for Bongo and CEO of Ghana GOIL PLC, for supporting youth employment in the area, and appealed for expanded opportunities for young people. He commended the youth of Feo for their contributions to community development, describing their efforts as a “beacon of hope.”
As a sign of appreciation, the chief and residents presented a ram to the GOIL CEO for his support.
