The Student Representative Council (SRC) of Bongo Senior High School has successfully organized its 2026 SRC Week celebration under the theme: “Creating Safe Spaces: Say No to Harassment, Drugs, and Gambling for Academic Excellence.”
The week-long celebration aimed to promote discipline, healthy living, academic excellence, and social responsibility among students. It also sought to mobilize resources to complete a summer hut for student use.
The programme was led by SRC President Mr. David Atinga and the SRC Secretary. Discussions centered on the theme and encouraged community participation and support. Several listeners who followed activities through community engagement pledged their support.
A major clean-up exercise was held at 10:30 a.m. at designated locations including the Chief’s Palace, Bongo District Hospital, and the District Police Station. The activity was spearheaded by the Physical Education and Health (PEH) Department, led by Mavis Atuguba and supported by Jones Banyisomah, Anelero Benjamin, Akantuge Christopher, Abdul-Salam Abdul-Aziz, and Chonia Zulkarinen. Students actively participated in the exercise.
A float intended to begin at 9:00 a.m. started at nearly 11:00 a.m. due to technical challenges. The procession moved from the school to Bongo-Saabo to create awareness about the SRC Week and its theme. The PEH Department coordinated the activity with support from Fuseina Awubgo, Stella Bawa, Francis Ageyine, Abdul-Salam Abdul-Aziz, and Chonia Zulkarinen.
An evening video show scheduled for 7:00 p.m. was canceled due to the unavailability of movies.
Games, Cadet Drills and Quiz Competition
Fun activities including sack races, egg races, and eating competitions were held at about 3:30 p.m., drawing enthusiastic participation from students. The events were coordinated by Madam Mary Ame-etigo and the PEH Department.
At 5:00 p.m., cadet drills were supervised by the Senior Housemaster, Cadet Patrons, and other staff members. Later at 9:30 p.m., an inter-house quiz competition in English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies took place. Heads of Departments and Housemasters oversaw the competition, while Mr. Abdul Salam served as quiz master.
Cultural Display and Educational Talk
At about 12:30 p.m., officers from the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) delivered an educational talk on creating safe spaces and preventing sexual harassment, drug abuse, and gambling in senior high schools. The session was interactive and informative.
A poetry recital followed at 1:14 p.m., organized by the English Department and led by Stella Bawa with support from Ben Nyabila, Adabooro Awine Bismark, and Agamboka Georgina Akayuliga. Cultural performances featuring drumming, singing, and dancing were held at about 1:30 p.m., also coordinated by Madam Stella Bawa.
Muslim Friday prayers were led by Abdul-Salam Abdul-Aziz, who prayed for the success of the programme. In the evening, friendly volleyball matches were played between Cadets and Prefects, SRC and Food Committee members, and Students and Teachers, fostering unity and teamwork.
Another campus-wide clean-up exercise was organized at 7:00 a.m., led by the PEH Department with Tangonyire Damian Felladam, Yeleduor Vincent, Anelero Awozubawom Benjamin, and Akantuge Christopher Akurigo.
The celebration continued with a variety show featuring guest gospel musician Patience Mietiba Atubiga. The Entertainment Unit coordinated the event.
The week concluded with a thanksgiving service at 9:30 a.m., officiated by the school chaplain, Rev. Wundengba John Kwame.
