St. John Bosco R/C Primary School in Feo, in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region, has climaxed this year’s Catholic Education Week celebration with a call for improved professionalism and support to complete stalled infrastructure projects.
The week-long celebration was held under the theme “Educating Against Examination Malpractice: A Sure Way to Curb Cheating in Examinations.”
The event brought together pupils, parents, teachers, and Catholic students from neighboring schools.
Speaking at the celebration, the headteacher, Raymond Apedaa Akolgo, underscored the importance of Catholic education in shaping responsible citizens.
“Catholic education ensures holistic quality formation of our students who selflessly and responsibly transform their communities through the proper professional use of available resources,” he said.
Mr. Apedaa noted that while Catholic schools are widely recognized for sound and holistic educational delivery, there remains room for improvement. He urged teachers to remain professional and committed to the vision, mission, and core values of the Catholic Education Unit in Ghana.
He also appealed for support to complete a three-unit classroom block initiated by the Catholic Bishop years ago. The project, he said, is about 85% complete but has stalled due to funding constraints.
The school faces several challenges, including inadequate teaching and learning materials, insufficient furniture and limited classroom space, which he said affects effective teaching, learning and discipline.
Elvis Agongobono Nyaaba, assembly member for the Feo Electoral Area, described the school’s challenges as longstanding and called for collective action from the district assembly, government agencies, NGOs and individuals to help complete the classroom block and improve conditions.
The celebration ended with renewed calls for stronger community support to enhance academic excellence and discipline.
