The Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, has appealed to the youth in the region to avoid over-speeding, particularly on the Bolgatanga–Navrongo highway.

His appeal follows a protest by residents of Sumbrungu over frequent road accidents on the stretch, which recently claimed the lives of Atingane Francis Akipoe, his pregnant wife, and their daughter on February 15, 2026.

The Minister made the call while addressing residents who were demanding the construction of speed ramps between Sumbrungu Azimse and Anateem. He emphasized that speed ramps are installed to save lives and must be respected by motorists to prevent accidents.

“We want to plead with the youth in this area to take this as a lesson. Whenever we see a speed ramp, let us slow down to protect our own lives and the innocent people crossing the road,” he said.

Mr. Akamugri assured residents that the government is committed to constructing speed ramps along the highway to reduce accidents and safeguard lives. He stressed that roads are built to facilitate movement and improve living conditions—not to take lives.
