Today, I write with a heavy and troubled heart to say goodbye to you, my brother and friend. You meant so much to me, and losing you at this critical moment has left a vacuum in my heart that words simply cannot describe. You did not even whisper to me that you were unwell.

The news of your passing reached me in the early hours of Monday, 23rd February 2026, at dawn. My phone rang at an unusual hour — a friend who never calls at that time. The moment I picked up, he asked whether I had heard the sad news. I said no, and quietly asked who. With a voice uncharacteristically heavy with grief, he said, “Your friend is gone — Joe, the Bongo DCE.”

I broke down instantly and wept uncontrollably until my wife came in from the kitchen and held me, though she too was in tears.

You were not just a friend — you were family, a confidant, and a source of strength and encouragement, even though you were younger than me. I remember when I lost my father, you stormed our house with the famous Zorko War Dancers to stand by me. That speaks to the depth of our bond. Despite belonging to opposing political traditions, that never came between us.

We found each other in the line of duty, serving our respective communities as Assembly Members of the Bongo District Assembly. We sat on the same Sub-Committees and at one point served together on the Executive Committee. It was through hard work and dedication that both of us earned the confidence of our political parties to serve as District Chief Executives — a position you held with distinction until your untimely passing.

Beyond politics, we also worked side by side at Sherigo Senior High School, as Principal Storekeeper and Accountant respectively. In those days, some people could hardly tell us apart — sometimes mistaking you for me, and me for you.

AKASAKE, as I fondly called you, I cannot come to terms with your passing. Your laughter was genuine, your heart was pure, and your presence brought comfort to all who knew you. In moments of joy, you celebrated with me. In moments of difficulty, we stood by each other. Your kindness was rare and extraordinary, and I will forever be grateful for the gift that you were as a friend.

Your patience, resilience, humility, and sincerity were your truest qualities. You were, without question, a real gem.

The memories we created together will remain treasures in my heart. Though you are no longer physically with us, your impact and legacy will live on.

It is deeply painful to say goodbye, but I take comfort in knowing that having you in my life was a blessing. Your life, though it feels far too short, was full of meaning. You touched lives, you made a difference, and you mattered.

Rest peacefully, my dear friend.

You will always be remembered, always be cherished, and never be forgotten.

Until we meet again — be with your Maker.
