The Managing Director of the Irrigation Company of Upper Regions (ICOUR), Dominic Anarigide, says the company has intensified training for rice farmers in the Upper East Region to improve yields and profits.
Speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show Thursday, Anarigide highlighted the Ghana Rice Improvement Project, implemented in partnership with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
“Navrongo now produces 5.9 tonnes per hectare, the highest in the country, thanks to adoption of modern farming techniques and proper farm management,” he said.
He added that farmers are being trained to plan their production based on markets, protect irrigation dams, and farm sustainably for future generations.
As part of the initiative, ICOUR is introducing seed cleaning machines locally so farmers do not have to travel long distances for cleaning, which will improve germination rates and overall yield.
