ICOUR is preparing to resume large-scale tomato production in the Upper East Region, following disruptions in cross-border trade with Burkina Faso, Managing Director Dominic Anarigide said.

Speaking on A1 Radio, he said the company is conducting soil tests to determine suitable crops and fertilizer requirements.

“We know our lands can produce tomatoes at scale. With improved varieties and proper organic fertilizer, we can meet demand without relying on imports from Burkina Faso,” he said.

Mr. Anarigide added that ICOUR is working with the World Bank’s Food Systems Resilience Project (FSRP) and other partners to provide farmers with guidance, organic fertilizers, and a demo farm system.

Plans are also underway, he said, to establish a processing factory to boost local production and provide incentives for farmers to return to tomato farming.
