The 18th edition of the Ramadan Soccer Fiesta is set to kick off on Friday, March 20, 2026, at the Mobil AstroTurf Field in Bolgatanga.
The annual tournament has become one of the most anticipated community sporting events in the Upper East Region, attracting large crowds and participation from several communities across Bolgatanga.
Organizers say this year’s edition is expected to be even bigger, with corporate bodies and community groups encouraged to support and participate in the competition.
History of the Tournament
The Ramadan Soccer Fiesta began as friendly matches between two Muslim communities in Bolgatanga — D-Line and Ashtown (Kotokoli-Zongo).
The competition officially started in 2008, but the final match was cancelled after a player sustained a serious leg injury.
In 2009, the tournament expanded from two to four participating communities, although the final match could not be played due to a clash of team jerseys.
Interest in the tournament continued to grow over the years, increasing from two communities in 2008, to four in 2009, and eight communities in 2010. The Olicoco community won the inaugural completed tournament in 2010.
Over the years, the competition has become a major Ramadan sporting event in Bolgatanga, bringing together communities and football enthusiasts.
