Final-year pupils of Bolgatanga Preparatory Model Junior High School have received career guidance and academic motivation through a mentorship programme organised by the school’s Old Students Association to prepare them for the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The event, held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, brought together professionals from different fields who shared their experiences and encouraged the candidates to remain focused on their studies and future career aspirations.

Organising Secretary of the Bolgatanga Preparatory School Old Students Association, Raymond Akolbire Ayinne, said the mentorship programme forms part of efforts by alumni to support the academic development of the school and guide students in making informed career choices.

“The goal of this mentorship is to contribute to improving the academic performance of our final-year students and help them make the right career decisions. Over the past three years, we have seen the positive impact this programme has had on candidates’ performance, and that motivates us to continue,” he said.

Mr. Ayinne added that the mentorship programme is the third organised by the association since the school’s Silver Jubilee celebration, noting that old students have also undertaken other interventions to enhance teaching and learning at the school.

“Aside from the mentorship sessions, we have supported the school with projects such as the establishment of a computer laboratory and renovation works. We believe these efforts will create a better learning environment for the pupils,” he said, while appealing to other old students to come on board and support their alma mater.

The Headteacher of the school, Nuhu Yussif, commended the Old Students Association for the initiative, describing the mentorship programme as timely and beneficial to students preparing for their examinations.

“This mentorship has come at the right time, especially as our final-year students prepare for the BECE. The knowledge and experiences shared by the mentors will go a long way in improving their study habits, confidence and academic performance,” he noted.

Mr. Yussif encouraged the students to take the advice shared by the mentors seriously and apply it in their studies. He also expressed appreciation to the old students and resource persons for their continued support to the school.

“Ever since this mentorship programme was introduced, it has become a life-changing event for our final-year students. The school is deeply grateful for the commitment and expertise the old students continue to bring to support the development of these young learners,” he added.

Resource persons who facilitated the mentorship session included Patience Wanoma, an insurer with SIC in Bolgatanga; Moubarakh Kounda, an ICT teacher; Beatrice Atule, a frontline officer at the Ghana Education Service in Bolgatanga; Nathaniel Nyaaba, a teacher at Bolgatanga Preparatory JHS; and journalist Seidu Mutawakil.

The mentors shared insights from their professional journeys and urged the students to remain disciplined, determined and focused on achieving their educational goals.
