The Upper East Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has been named the first runner-up for Tuberculosis (TB) control in 2025.

The Western Region took the top spot, while the Volta Region followed as the second runner-up at the national TB, HIV and malaria control programme held in Accra.

The Upper East Region was honoured with a plaque recognizing its exceptional performance in TB management.

The award featured the encouraging local phrase, “Tuuma Tuuma, Ya mu ya paa!!” which translates to, “Well done, you have done very well.”

Dr Briamah Baba Abubakari, the Regional Director of Health Services, dedicated the achievement to GHS staff across the region.

While expressing immense pride in their diligence, he noted that the region narrowly missed the top prize due to minor technical hitches.

“Our target is to be the first because we have hardworking staff. This award will motivate us to continue working diligently to improve healthcare delivery across board,” Dr Abubakari stated.

He emphasized that TB remained a curable disease and urged members of the public to continue to comply with the GHS interventions to help eliminate the disease entirely.
