Ayuusi-Yine Junior High School, located in the Kalbeo community in Bolgatanga, has joined the nationwide effort to promote Ghanaian culture by observing “Fugu Wednesday,” a new initiative encouraging the wearing of traditional smocks.

The move follows an announcement by the John Dramani Mahama government designating Wednesdays as a day to promote the fugu.

As part of the initiative, pupils of the school are now permitted to wear smocks every Wednesday instead of their usual uniforms. School authorities say the decision is aimed at encouraging students to appreciate and embrace their cultural heritage from a young age, explaining that the initiative is intended to instil a sense of tradition and identity among the pupils, while also promoting pride in local culture.

The introduction of Fugu Wednesday at Ayuusi-Yine JHS reflects a broader push to integrate cultural values into everyday life, especially within educational institutions.
