The Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, has cut sod for multiple education projects across the constituency, valued at more than GH¢41 million.
The projects, funded through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), are expected to improve access to quality education and enhance learning conditions in schools within the district.
Speaking at brief ceremonies held at various project sites, Dr Apaak said the initiative forms part of efforts to address longstanding infrastructure deficits affecting teaching and learning.
The projects include the construction of a two-storey Builsa South District Education Directorate office complex in Fumbisi, a three-unit classroom block with auxiliary facilities at Bachonsa, and a kindergarten block with ancillary facilities at Zamsa.
Other components include two-storey dormitory blocks for both boys and girls, as well as a three-bedroom headmaster’s bungalow at Kanjarga Senior High School. In addition, a six-unit classroom block will be constructed at Nadema-Luisa, alongside a three-unit classroom block at Kanjarga Nyansa.
Dr Apaak said the projects are expected to reduce congestion in classrooms, ease pressure on existing facilities, and create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.
“These investments are critical to improving educational outcomes and ensuring that our children have access to quality learning environments,” he said.
The MP also disclosed that more than 400 mono desks will be supplied to schools across the district in the coming weeks to address furniture shortages in basic schools.
The Builsa South District Director of Education, Richard Akum-Nyemi, commended the MP for his continued support for the education sector.
He noted that interventions such as the provision of desks and improvement of school infrastructure have contributed to better teaching and learning conditions in the district.
Mr Akum-Nyemi expressed optimism that the ongoing projects will lead to improved academic performance.
“We are confident that these projects, when completed, will significantly enhance the quality of education delivery in Builsa South,” he said.
The projects are expected to be completed within 12 months, according to contractors.
The sod-cutting ceremonies were attended by the Builsa South District Chief Executive, Anne Musah; the District Director of Education; contractors; and constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by Chairman Caesar Akinkang, as well as other district officials.
Residents and stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a major investment in education in the constituency.
