The Bembiisi community in the Kassena Nankana West District of Ghana’s Upper East Region is calling for attention, with its Assembly Member, Charles Anyungba, expressing deep concern over the lack of development in the area.

“With regard to development in the Bembiisi community, we are far behind. No government has come that we can say has done anything significant for us as a community,” he said.

Speaking on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East show, Mr. Anyungba lamented that successive governments have neglected the community, leaving it without basic amenities such as quality education, healthcare, electricity, roads, and access to clean water.

“In all sectors, we are lacking. It appears successive governments do not consider Bembiisi’s development a priority,” he added.

Despite the challenges, the community is taking steps to improve its situation by organizing an annual homecoming festival to raise funds for self-initiated development projects.

The Assembly Member praised the resilience of residents, saying they are determined to push forward with their own development agenda.

“Through the efforts of the community, we were able to construct a three-unit classroom block from our homecoming celebration,” he said. “As a community, we are ready to continue supporting our own development.”

The neglect has left Bembiisi lagging behind, but the community remains hopeful that collective action will help change its fortunes.
