Youth in the Bembisi-Kandiga community in the Nabilingo Electoral Area of the Kassena Nankana West District have called for urgent development support, as they work to complete a community-initiated school project.
The youth group organised a homecoming event to raise funds for the completion of a three-unit classroom block with an office, aimed at replacing makeshift learning under trees.
The project, initiated by the community, has been partly constructed using local masons and labour. The group has also formalised its efforts by registering as the Bembisi Youth Association at the Registrar General’s Department in Accra.
Organisers said the latest fundraising event is intended to mobilise resources to complete the structure and improve learning conditions for schoolchildren.
Residents appealed to government, non-governmental organisations, philanthropists, and other stakeholders to support the project with funds, materials, or technical assistance.
They said the community has long faced infrastructural challenges, including the lack of adequate classrooms, desks, and sanitation facilities for pupils and teachers.
The community also lacks electricity, access roads, and safe drinking water, according to residents.
Youth leaders further raised concerns about unemployment, saying limited opportunities continue to affect young people in the area.
They said despite participating in elections within the Chiana-Paga Constituency, the community has not seen corresponding development.
Assembly Member Charles Anyungba called on the Member of Parliament and local authorities to prioritise development projects in the area.
He also appealed to prominent individuals from the Kandiga area, including Stephen Aeke Akurugo and Nekyema Billa Alamzy, to support efforts to improve living conditions in Bembisi.
Residents said they remain hopeful that collective support will help address the challenges facing the community.
