Gambibigo chief urges gov’t to resume stalled bridge projects, retool health facilities

The Chief of Gambibigo, Naba Sadik Ayine Inusah, has appealed to President John Mahama to intervene in several stalled development projects in the area, citing the impact of the previous government’s debt restructuring programme.

Speaking when NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia visited the community as part of his nationwide ‘Thank You Tour’, the chief said the suspension of a key bridge project had left residents struggling.

“We are just having a few concerns to be given to you for His Excellency President John Mahama,” Naba Sadik said. “The previous government’s haircut affected us a lot. The people of Gambibigo, for the reason that the bridge crossing from BOST, linking the Tamale highway, was stopped because of the haircut by the previous government.”

He said the contractor has not been paid and the project remains abandoned. “We don’t know when this problem will be resolved. My understanding is that there are over 50 of them that were stalled just because of the haircut. Please tell His Excellency President John Mahama to see how to solve that problem for us,” he added.

The chief also raised concerns about the state of health facilities in Bolga East. “You know in Bolga East we have a lot of CHPS compounds. Sometimes people think that bringing the bigger items is what we may need, but if you look at the health centers, they all need retooling. I was shocked to get into my own health center and a common sterilizer was a difficulty,” he said.

He urged the government to prioritise smaller but critical equipment for health centers. “So sometimes you may be thinking of bigger things, but they need small, small equipment that will make health centers work effectively. So I am urging that you take a look in that direction.”

Naba Sadik also recalled other concerns raised during the campaign period, including the need for a meat factory, a technical institute in Bolga East, and improved road networks.

“We talked about the meat factory. We talked about a technical institute here in Bolga East. We talked about our road networks. Our road networks are so poor,” he noted.

Asiedu Nketia’s Upper East tour is part of a nationwide exercise by the NDC leadership to thank voters and account for the government’s stewardship since returning to power.
