The Upper East Regional Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abraham Lambon, has called on government appointees of President John Dramani Mahama to ensure that party members who sacrificed during the party’s eight years in opposition benefit from appointments.

Speaking at the Upper East Regional Youth/TEIN Conference held at the Nursing Training College in Bolgatanga as part of the party’s Reset Agenda, Mr. Lambon said the youth expect the government to prioritize loyalty and sacrifice over favoritism.

“My plea to the appointees of John Mahama is that he has entrusted you with the job to help ordinary Ghanaians and to ensure that party members who sacrificed for the party to be in power also benefit in government,” he said.

He added, “Don’t go and copy what the NPP government did. Make sure that when appointments come, it passes through the party structure so that our youth can benefit.”

Mr. Lambon recalled the sacrifices made by party members during the opposition years, including some who lost their lives in service to the party.

He warned that if appointees sideline loyal members in favour of “family and friends,” the youth would mobilize to hold the government accountable.

“It is the youth that sacrificed for the party. If today the party is in power and appointees forget those who voted and sacrificed, I will mobilize the youth and we will demonstrate against you. Let’s take the time to reward them for their sacrifices,” he stated.

Scholarships for needy students delivered

The youth organizer also said the NDC Youth Wing was delivering on its promise to support education in the region.

He announced that through the National Youth Organizer and the National Apprenticeship Coordinator, every tertiary institution in the Upper East Region is receiving ten slots for local scholarships for needy students.

“As we speak, every institution in the region is getting ten people. Out of the eleven institutions, every school is getting ten people. That is the benefit and the fruits of government,” he said.

He urged students to take advantage of the opportunity and encouraged young people to work hard and learn from party leaders.

The conference brought together members of the NDC Youth Wing and TEIN Secretariat to discuss youth empowerment, party mobilization and the implementation of the government’s Reset Agenda in the region.

Upper East Regional Minister Donatus Akamugri Atanga used the opportunity to encourage TEIN members to remain committed to the NDC, describing them as the future of the party and the country.
