Businessman and philanthropist Alhaji Ibrahim Mahama has donated GH₵5,000 to the Upper East Regional Draft Association to support its annual Salah draft tournament and promote the growth of the sport in northern Ghana.

According to Charles Yin Sabato, organizer of the Upper East Regional Draft Association, the donation was made as part of Alhaji Mahama’s Zakat, the Islamic practice of charitable giving during the Eid season.

Sabato said the support was intended to increase participation in the sport and help revive competitive draft activities in the northern sector of the country.

“He observed that draft competitions are rarely organized in the north and decided to support the tournament to encourage greater youth participation and development of the game,” he said.

The Salah tournament was held at the Children’s Park in Bolgatanga and attracted teams from Tilli, Sandema, Navrongo and Bolgatanga.

At the end of the competition, the Navrongo Draft Team emerged champions and received the top cash prize of GH₵800. The second-placed team received GH₵600, while the third and fourth-placed teams took home GH₵400 and GH₵200 respectively.

Organizers expressed appreciation to Alhaji Mahama for the sponsorship, describing it as a significant contribution toward promoting drafts and creating opportunities for young players in the region.
