Students in Namoo forced to lie on floors due to lack of furniture – Assembly member

The Assembly Member for the Namoo Electoral Area in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region, Daniel Ayeta, has raised concerns over the difficult learning conditions facing students in schools within the community.

Speaking on Bolga FM’s Tinmaalgo Sanga programme, Ayeta said many pupils are forced to lie on their stomachs while learning due to an acute shortage of classroom furniture. He said the situation has become a major obstacle to quality education and the academic development of children in the area.

He noted that despite the conditions under which students study, they are expected to sit for the same district, regional and national examinations as their counterparts in better-equipped schools across the country.

“It is worrying that our children have to study while lying on the floor because there are not enough desks and chairs in the classrooms. Yet they sit for the same examinations as students who have access to better learning facilities,” he lamented.

Ayeta said the lack of adequate furniture, coupled with other infrastructure challenges in the area, is negatively affecting teaching and learning and could impact students’ academic performance.

He appealed to the Government of Ghana, the Ghana Education Service, corporate organisations, non-governmental organisations, philanthropists and development partners to support schools in the community with desks, chairs and other essential educational materials.

He said investing in education is investing in the future of the community, stressing that every child deserves a conducive environment to learn and achieve their full potential.

The Assembly Member further called on stakeholders in the education sector to pay urgent attention to the plight of students in Namoo and ensure they are provided with the resources needed to compete fairly with their peers across the country.

Residents and parents have also joined the appeal, urging authorities to take immediate action to improve learning conditions and create better prospects for children in the area.

Ayeta said addressing the furniture deficit and other educational challenges would significantly improve teaching and learning outcomes and contribute to the overall development of the community.
