The Youth President of Sumbrungu, Albert Adongo, has appealed to the government and other stakeholders to establish a Senior High School (SHS) in the community to improve access to secondary education and promote local development.
Speaking on the educational needs of the community, Mr. Adongo expressed concern that despite Sumbrungu being home to a technical university, it still lacks a Senior High School to serve students within the area.
According to him, many students are compelled to travel to other communities to continue their secondary education after completing junior high school, creating financial and logistical challenges for parents and guardians.
He disclosed that the community has already secured a parcel of land for the proposed Senior High School and is ready to support efforts aimed at making the project a reality.
Mr. Adongo noted that establishing an SHS in Sumbrungu would not only improve access to quality education but also contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the community by creating opportunities for young people.
He also called for the establishment of a Sumbrungu Educational Trust Fund to provide financial assistance to brilliant but needy students, support skills development, and create employment opportunities for the youth.
According to him, such a fund would help reduce the financial burden on families, increase school enrolment, and empower young people to pursue higher education and vocational training.
Mr. Adongo urged government agencies, development partners, corporate institutions, philanthropists, and indigenes of Sumbrungu to collaborate in supporting these initiatives, describing education as the foundation for sustainable community development and youth empowerment.
