Couples for Christ (CFC), a Christian society in the Catholic Church made up of married couples, has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting healthy family life and building stronger communities through youth mentorship.
As part of its annual outreach, the group has organised a seminar for new entrants to senior high schools since 2011. The programme, dubbed “Ani Dage Mbia,” meaning “Who is not my child?” is designed to equip junior high school graduates with life skills before they enter boarding school.
Following modest successes over the years, the society says it is expanding the programme to benefit more children across the region. This year’s seminar in Bolgatanga focused on three key areas: managing life without parents or guardians, maintaining personal health, and managing studies, including the opportunities and challenges of boarding school.
Speaking to A1 News about the programme, Samuel Agyegelone, a marriage and youth counsellor and Chairman of the Organising Committee of Couples for Christ, explained its purpose.
“They are about to enter SHS, and we take them through this programme. It’s mainly to give them information, coach them, mentor them and advise them so that they will go there prepared,” he said.
Mr. Agyegelone added that the transition from home to boarding school is a critical stage and that early preparation is key to academic success.
“Secondary school is one of the foundations. If they don’t get their credits, they cannot launch into professional careers. So that’s why it’s critical,” he said.
BECE graduates from various communities who participated in the programme expressed appreciation and described it as beneficial. They thanked Couples for Christ for the opportunity and pledged to apply the lessons wherever they go.
One of last year’s beneficiaries, Gloria Atanga, who is now a student at Bongo Senior High School, said the programme had helped her adjust to school life.
“What I learned from the programme last year is guiding me in school. I am pleading for the continuation of the programme,” she said.
While appealing for support, the leadership of Couples for Christ said it would continue to expand “Ani Dage Mbia” to reach more students and support them through one of the most important transitions in their education.
