The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bolga East Constituency has called on President John Dramani Mahama‘s administration to prioritise the completion of the Agenda 111 hospital in the constituency, arguing that free primary healthcare will have limited impact without adequate health infrastructure.
The party’s Constituency Communication Officer, Atera Ayinbila Abubakar, made the call following the President’s launch of the Free Primary Healthcare initiative at Zuarungu during his tour of the Upper East Region.
Mr. Abubakar described the launch as a publicity exercise and argued that the government should instead focus attention on completing the Agenda 111 hospital, which he claimed was more than 60% complete when the previous NPP administration left office.
“The main priority of the President’s visit was supposed to be on how he is going to complete the Agenda 111 hospital that is almost 60% plus works done by the previous NPP government,” he stated.
According to him, providing free healthcare services without the necessary facilities and infrastructure could limit the effectiveness of the programme in the constituency.
Mr. Abubakar also accused the NDC government of failing to deliver adequate development to the Upper East Region despite the electoral support it received in the 2024 general election.
He further criticised the region’s 15 Members of Parliament, alleging that they had not done enough to attract major development projects to the Upper East.
The NPP communication officer also questioned the timing of road watering along the Bolgatanga-Bawku road during President Mahama’s visit, asking why similar measures were not undertaken regularly to reduce dust for residents and motorists.
“Why is the road watered today meanwhile, everyday they do not water it Are those of us who voted for the President animals” he queried.
Mr. Abubakar also questioned President Mahama’s inspection of the proposed Bolgatanga Airport site, arguing that officials from the aviation sector had already visited the area.
He maintained that the government should concentrate on completing critical infrastructure and delivering projects that directly address the needs of residents.
The Bolga East NPP is therefore calling on the government to prioritise the completion of the Agenda 111 hospital and other health infrastructure alongside the implementation of the Free Primary Healthcare initiative.
