The Bongo District Assembly is set to deploy machinery under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) to undertake emergency repairs on deteriorated sections of the Ayopia-Soe road.
The District Chief Executive for Bongo announced the intervention after inspecting the road, particularly the section near the Soe Market, following concerns about its worsening condition.
The inspection revealed deep gullies and potholes along portions of the road, making movement difficult and posing safety risks to motorists and pedestrians.
According to the DCE, the poor condition of the road has already contributed to accidents. The DCE cited a recent incident in which a motorcyclist was injured after hitting a damaged section of the road, causing a load of iron rods he was transporting to spill onto the road.
The DCE wished the injured motorcyclist a speedy recovery and assured residents of Ayopia, Gurigo and Soe that the Assembly had taken notice of their concerns.
The Assembly is expected to use its DRIP machinery to undertake temporary repairs on the worst affected sections to make the road safer and more motorable.
The DCE said the intervention would provide immediate relief while efforts continue towards securing a permanent rehabilitation of the road.
The planned repairs follow concerns raised by residents over the condition of the Bongo-Soe-Ayopia road and its impact on transportation and access to the Soe Market.
