The Assembly Member for the Yorogo Tingre Electoral Area in the Bolgatanga Municipality, Bawa Atule, has commended Upper East Regional Minister Donatus Akamugri Atanga for introducing an accountability initiative aimed at encouraging public officials to report on their activities and development interventions.

He said the initiative would promote transparency and encourage Assembly Members to regularly engage their constituents on efforts to address development challenges in their communities.

Mr Atule made the remarks during an interview on Bolga FM’s Timaaga Sanga programme, where he outlined interventions in education and water provision that he had pursued since assuming office.

According to him, the initiative provides an opportunity for Assembly Members to account for their stewardship and demonstrate how they are responding to the needs of their constituents.

He said he had already begun engaging residents of the Yorogo Tingre Electoral Area to update them on development activities and efforts to address challenges facing their communities.

Speaking on education, Mr Atule disclosed that pupils at Yorogo Gaabisi previously lacked adequate classroom facilities, forcing the community to use a craft centre as a temporary learning space for kindergarten and primary school pupils.

He explained that after drawing the attention of the relevant authorities to the situation, the Municipal Chief Executive directed a contractor to construct a new school facility within three months.

“Before the intervention, our children did not have proper classrooms for their education. The community had to rely on the craft centre to accommodate the pupils,” he said.

Mr Atule expressed satisfaction with the intervention, saying the new facility would provide a more conducive learning environment for children in the community.

He further disclosed that the Municipal Assembly had facilitated efforts to secure support from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) for another school project at Linting in Yorogo Gaabisi.

He said the proposed project would help address classroom infrastructure challenges and improve access to education in the area.

On water provision, the Assembly Member identified inadequate access to potable water as one of the major challenges confronting residents.

He said he had engaged the Municipal Assembly, the Municipal Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central to seek interventions to address the situation.

According to him, these engagements had led to efforts to provide boreholes in communities within the electoral area, including locations near the residences of sub-chiefs, to improve access to water.

“Water remains one of the major challenges in our communities, so we have been engaging the Assembly, the MCE and our Member of Parliament to help find lasting solutions,” he said.

Mr Atule maintained that the Regional Minister’s accountability initiative would encourage public officials to be more responsive to the needs of their constituents and provide regular updates on development projects.

He urged residents to continue engaging their elected representatives and participating in local governance processes to ensure that development interventions reflected community priorities.
