Award-winning musician Fawzia Adongo has called for greater support for female musicians in the Upper East Region, saying limited opportunities and sponsorship continue to make it difficult for them to build sustainable careers.

Madam Adongo, winner of the Dukcool Best Songwriter of the Year 2026, said despite the work local musicians put into producing music that entertains and inspires the public, many struggle to earn meaningful returns from their craft.

She said the situation is particularly challenging for female musicians, who face additional difficulties in accessing opportunities, sponsorship and other forms of support needed to develop their careers.

According to her, while audiences enjoy and benefit from songs produced by local musicians, the artists themselves often receive little financial benefit from their work.

Madam Adongo therefore appealed to businesses, event organisers, media houses, music industry stakeholders and music lovers to provide greater support to musicians in the Upper East Region, particularly female artists.

She believes stronger investment in local talent will help build a more sustainable music industry while encouraging talented young people to consider music as a viable profession.

Madam Adongo said the Upper East Region has talented female musicians with the potential to make a significant impact if they are provided with the right opportunities and support.

She also stressed the importance of professionalism within the industry, saying the character and behaviour of individuals often reveal who they truly are.

The award-winning songwriter urged people within the music industry to demonstrate professionalism and commitment to the growth of local music.
