Newly elected Upper East Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Ayine, says he was so confident of winning the position that he declared victory even while delegates were still casting their ballots.
Speaking on Bolga FM on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026, Mr. Ayine said he never doubted his chances despite the uncertainty surrounding the closely contested regional election.
“Nobody had confidence that he or she was going to win except me. Anywhere I went, I was telling people that I had won already,” he said.
Mr. Ayine said his confidence remained unchanged on election day, recounting a conversation with Bolga FM journalist Joshua Asaah while voting was still underway.
“During the voting, Joshua called me for a live interview and asked me how the voting was going on. I quickly responded that I had won already,” he said.
Mr. Ayine eventually emerged victorious in the Regional Secretary contest.
Before his election, he served as Upper East Regional Treasurer of the NPP and had previously served as Treasurer for the Bolgatanga Central Constituency.
He attributed his decision to seek the Regional Secretary position to his years of service to the party at the constituency and regional levels.
His election comes as the NPP reorganises its structures in preparation for the 2028 general elections, with the new regional leadership expected to lead efforts to rebuild the party in the Upper East Region.
The NPP faces a significant rebuilding task in the region after failing to win any of its 15 parliamentary seats in the 2024 general elections.
