Upper East Region-based musician and content creator Joyce Akatiga, popularly known as AJ Sugar, has urged married women to consider allowing their husbands to take additional wives if the men have the financial capacity and commitment to support multiple families.
Speaking on Bolga FM’s Tooma La Dengo Sanga, AJ Sugar argued that polygamy could provide marriage opportunities for single women while potentially reducing relationships outside marriage.
She said her position is partly based on her belief that women outnumber men, making it difficult for some women who desire marriage to find partners.
According to her, women already in marriages should therefore be more open to sharing their husbands with other women, provided the men are capable of taking responsibility for their wives and children.
AJ Sugar also argued that accepting polygamous marriages could help reduce infidelity, suggesting that some men engage in relationships outside their marriages because they are unable to openly take additional wives.
She, however, stressed that financial capacity and responsibility should be important considerations, arguing that men who cannot adequately provide for multiple households should not take additional wives.
Beyond her views on marriage, AJ Sugar called for greater investment in musicians in the Upper East Region, particularly female artistes.
She appealed to business owners, event organisers, media houses, music industry stakeholders and music lovers to provide greater support for local musicians to help build a sustainable music industry in the region.
According to her, increased investment in the creative industry could also encourage talented young people to consider music as a viable profession.
AJ Sugar further disclosed that she currently does not have a manager and is open to working with someone capable of professionally managing her career.
She therefore invited individuals with the capacity, commitment and experience to manage her career to express interest.
