The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Bongo has challenged the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to account for its development record in the district, claiming that the previous NPP administration undertook more than 125 project interventions across nine sectors during its first two years in office.
The party says its interventions covered roads, education, healthcare, agriculture, electricity, water and sanitation, judicial infrastructure, markets and industrial development.
Addressing a press conference in Bongo, the party’s Communications Officer, Agengre Daniel Asebila, presented what he described as the NPP’s development record, accusing the current administration of attempting to take credit for projects initiated under the previous government.
According to the party, its first two years in office saw 18 road, bridge and drainage project entries, 13 agricultural infrastructure interventions, 14 education projects and eight energy and power infrastructure projects.
It also listed five health infrastructure projects, one judicial infrastructure project, nine market and other public infrastructure projects, two industrial and economic infrastructure projects, and 56 water and sanitation project entries.
Among the education projects cited were classroom blocks at Akulyor, Ayopia, Beo, Gurigo, Kanga, Kansoe, Zorkor Kanga and Daliga.
The party also mentioned the construction of a dining hall pavilion at Zorko Senior High School, a dormitory at Bongo Senior High School and the supply of 500 dual desks to basic schools across the district.
In the agricultural sector, the NPP cited nine projects under the One Village, One Dam initiative in Ayopia, Feo, Goo, Kabre, Kodorogo, Kuyelingo, Beo, Balungu and Samboligo.
It further listed the establishment of a factory at Bogrigo under the One District, One Factory initiative and the construction of a warehouse for the Shea Butter Factory along the Dua Feeder Road as part of its industrial development interventions.
Water and sanitation accounted for the largest number of project entries, with the party citing 56 interventions involving boreholes, small-town water systems, public toilets, biodigester-supported washrooms and rainwater harvesting facilities.
Mr Asebila argued that the projects demonstrated the NPP’s contribution to development in Bongo, insisting that its record extended beyond project announcements and ceremonial launches.
He questioned why the current NDC administration had yet to demonstrate what the party considered a comparable record of completed projects, despite the Regional Minister, Member of Parliament and District Chief Executive all belonging to the governing party.
The NPP called on the government to provide residents with a verifiable account of development projects undertaken in Bongo since January 2025.
