Final Year Students of the Navrongo Senior High School in the Upper East region have been suspended by the school authorities for what they describe as gross insubordination on the part of the students.

Narrating the crux of the matter to a1radioonline.com, Oga George who is a local journalist in Navrongo said “the final year students of the school dressed haphazardly to the dining hall for their breakfast but were sacked from the hall by the dining hall master. Although they left their bowls behind to be served by their friends, the dining hall master ordered that no food was leaving the hall and therefore poured all the food been served back into the pantry bowl. This angered the final year who decided to boycott all school activities yesterday”.

He further mentioned that “although the Headmistress tried using their colleagues who were prefects and members of the school’s SRC to address the issue, the students pelted them with stones. When the SRC and the prefects could not resolve the issue, teachers were also sent by the headmistress to talk to the final year students but they were also given a fair share of the stones. After these, the headmistress had to resort to the Municipal Director of education upon whose advice the students were asked to go home.

Oga George reported that as of 7:00 pm yesterday, all final year students except the prefects and the members of the SRC had left the school’s premises.

He was, however, shock at the demeanor of the students who were sacked saying “I was shocked that instead of being remorseful, these students were very happy that they were going home. They acted like they don’t care about the fact that they are writing exams”.

On whether the school was going to call back the students, he indicated that for now, all he could report is that the students will have to come from their homes to write the exams.

However, efforts to reach authorities on the matter has been futile.
