Twenty students of the University of Ghana were affected by Saturday night’s gas explosion that occurred at the Atomic Junction, the Director of Public Affairs of the University Stella Amoah, has disclosed.
The death toll in the unforunate incident has risen to seven (7) with one hundred and thirty-two (132) persons injured out of which 64 have been treated and discharged.
According to a statement signed by the Minister of Information, Mustapha Hamid, 68 injured persons including a fire officer at the Police Hospital are still receiving treatment with two others in critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit of the 37 Military Hospital.
Personnel of the National Fire Service had it tough fighting the fire following the gas station explosion which got thousands of people running helter skelter for their lives in the very busy vicinity. It took them about 10 hours to douse the fire.
She added that the accident has had a toll on academic activities on campus as some of the students could not sit for their exams
