After 3 attempts to become a Member of Parliament, Reverend Professor Emmanuel Abugre Abole says he is now poised to unseat the incumbent MP for Bolgatanga East, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine of the opposition National Democratic Congress.

Rev. Abole first contested the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries in 2008 when Bolgatanga East had not been carved out of Bolgatanga Central Constituency but lost to Mercy Alima Musah.

He was again beaten by Rockson Bukari by 3 votes in the 2012 primaries of the party in the Bolgatanga East Constituency.

In 2016, the party in the constituency opted for him to go unopposed which he failed to win the seat.

Rev. Abole was then appointed District Chief Executive for newly created Bolgatanga East after NPP won power in 2016.

Just like President Nana Akufo Addo who ran for the presidency for 3 consecutive times, Rev. Abole said he is now ready to wrestle power from the NDC MP.

“I am a replica of His Excellency Nana Akufo Addo, he lost twice and when given the opportunity in his third bid, Ghanaians can now see the goodness of his governance. His age was used against him but he has proven to be visionary than the so called young man”.

He said this after submitting his forms at the party’s constituency office to contest the NPP parliamentary primaries.

Constituents of Bolgatanga East during the submission of the forms

The first DCE for Bolgatanga East District believes he is a man who can lobby to ensure the needed development gets to the constituency if given the mandate as MP since the constituents have not been well represented in parliament.

“If you look at the percentage of votes I lifted from 2012 to 2016, I managed to lift our percentage of votes from about 20 to 30 percent. But because we were in opposition, incumbency played in, that, Nana can never be a president and it got into our people so much. The people appreciated I was the best candidate contesting but they did not want their fine gentleman to go to parliament and suffer. After Nana was declared the president, I can say on authority, a number of people wept, because, they were trying to avoid the unavoidable. What they thought I could not, it turned the other way round”
