The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed it’s readiness to deal with the Coronavirus which is ravaging and spreading it’s tentacles to every continent and country in the world.

Dozens have been reported dead and many others infected while,a few have recovered from the viral infectious disease.

The situation has led the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare the disease a pandemic and cautioned affected countries to put in place precautionary measures to contain the outbreak.

Ghana has had 57 suspected cases all tested negative but neighboring countries such as Togo,Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso as well as Nigeria have recorded the disease.

President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo Addo in a televised speech on the disease has expressed satisfaction about the preparation put in place in the country especially at the entry points.

The President therefore announced a budgetary allocation of $100 Million to secure logistics in preventing the disease into the country.

However,a section of Ghanaians have raised concerns about the porous nature of the borders which has the high tendency of exposing the citizens to the disease taking into consideration the daily inter border trading activities.

Meanwhile, addressing health professionals and other relevant stakeholders in Bolgatanga in a performance review meeting, Upper East Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service,Dr.Winfrey Ofosu said all the measures put in place so far were encouraging and adequate enough to tackle the novel Coronavirus.

“The disease now in our neighboring country Burkina Faso to the north,Togo and La Cote D’voire, Ghana has just become an Island in the spread of this pandemic. I believe the questions on the lips of everyone is whether we are ready to deal with the disease if the case comes to Ghana. And I say yes we are prepared but just like any student going to write an exam, you are never prepared until you enter the exam hall “He said.

Dr.Ofosu who was speaking on the theme “the role of quality data in achieving universal health coverage” noted that despite the stringent measures put in place, effective training will be given to health workers across the country.
