The Ghana Police Service has disclosed that an intelligence-led operation has led to the arrest of one Bukari Bashiru at Bongo-Balungu. The suspect, Bukari Bashiru was arrested on 20th January 2022, and handed over to the Regional CID, at Bolgatanga together with some suspected stolen items.
The items include; an amount of ghc6,920, three(3) pen drives, a Techno spark 5 phone, three(3) Itel keypad phones and two unregistered blue and ash coloured motorbikes with chassis numbers LC6PCJBJ9M0054321, LC6XCH1GXE1Q13686.
The others are a black MP3 player, a Bajaj blue tricycle with registration no.M-20-UE 8834, a bundle of cable wires, sets of spanners, motor parts, different sets of ignition keys and six(6) registration number plates.
Speaking to Samuel Mbura on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East, the Upper East Regional Public Affairs Officer of the Ghana Police Service, ASP David Okyere-Fianku said as part of strategies to clamp down on crime, the Ghana Police Service has continually revised its security activities. The revision of same led to the arrest of the criminal mastermind in the area.
“When it comes to Bongo District, we have been having a few challenges involving motorbike snatching, sometimes at gunpoint. In order to break the chain, we put our intelligence together ad we have been able to arrest one Bukari Bashiru who we highly suspect and believe to be involved in the motorbike snatching in their area. His arrest is good news. We will do our best to arrest the rest of his accomplices who are on the run”.
“People in Bongo and its environs should remain calm. We have already broken the jinx of these criminal activities so they should be rest assured. Motorbike and vehicle patrols have been channelled to Bongo and its environs. They should partner with the police and give us information that will lead us to the arrest of these criminals and the place will be safer,” he said.
Meanwhile, the public has said that individuals who may have lost their items should go to the Upper East Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service for identification and retrieval of the said lost items.
