Narrative Changers, a pressure group in the Upper East Region says the ruling government did not do any proper consultation before going on to cut the sod for the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam project.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in November 2019 cut sod to signal the commencement of the project in a very colourful ceremony. The $993m Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam project was expected to end in 15 months with Power China, a subsidiary of Synohydro China securing the contract.
Speaking on the Day Break Upper East Show on A1Radio, Chairman of the Narrative Changers George Solomon said “the project came just to win political votes; that’s how I see it because it was just prior to the election 2020 and they needed to just do something. I remember how they brought all our Paramount Chiefs together and they made them to be dancing just for this project knowing very well that they didn’t even have a source of funding for this project.”
Mr Solomon continued to say that although the project is very important for the people, the government did not do broader consultation before going ahead to cut the sod for the project to kick start.
The Narrative Changers also called on President Akufo-Addo to update the people of the Upper East Region on why work at the Rock Estates, an affordable housing project in Pusu-Namoo in the Talensi District, has stalled many months after the sod-cutting ceremony.
President Akufo-Addo is expected to visit the Upper East Region on August 4, 2022.
