The Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has hailed the government’s newly launched ‘No Fees Stress’ initiative as a transformative step toward eliminating financial barriers in tertiary education.

The policy, which officially commenced on Friday, July 4, 2025, has already disbursed financial aid to 19,703 students, with priority given to the most vulnerable.

Dr. Apaak, in a social media post, expressed optimism about the initiative’s impact, stating, “Trust John Dramani Mahama to deliver on his promises. No Fees Stress Policy is active!”

He emphasized that the revamped Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) is working tirelessly to ensure timely disbursement of funds, enabling students to pursue higher education without financial strain.

The ‘No Fees Stress’ initiative, a flagship program under the Mahama administration, seeks to address longstanding challenges faced by students struggling with tuition fees, accommodation, and other academic expenses.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of SLTF, Ms. Saajida Shiraz, the fund has adopted an efficient, needs-based system to ensure equitable distribution. “We are prioritizing students from low-income backgrounds, those with disabilities, and others facing extreme financial hardship,” she explained.

Dr. Apaak urged Ghanaians, particularly students, to rally behind the initiative, describing it as a critical investment in the nation’s future.

“Education should never be a privilege for the few. President Mahama is delivering on his pledge to make tertiary education accessible to all, and we must all support this vision,” he stated.

The policy has been met with widespread approval from beneficiary students and educational stakeholders, who view it as a significant step toward reducing dropout rates and improving enrollment in tertiary institutions.
