The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) in the Upper East Region has welcomed and endorsed a collaborative initiative led by legendary Kologo musician Atongo Zimba, which seeks to use music as a tool for climate action.
The initiative, dubbed the Ghana-Netherlands Music Dialogue on Climate Change and themed “Climate Voices”, aims to blend art, culture, and advocacy in addressing one of the world’s most pressing challenges.
Speaking during a courtesy call by Atongo Zimba and his team, the Regional Director of the GTA, Mr. Wisdom Ahadzi, underscored the importance of the project, stressing that tourism can only thrive in a clean, safe, and sustainable environment.
“We fully endorse this initiative because protecting our environment is key to safeguarding our cultural heritage and boosting tourism,” he said.
Atongo Zimba explained that the project will bring together Ghanaian and Dutch artists in a cross-cultural exchange designed to raise awareness about climate change. According to him, music, as a universal language, has the power to inspire people—particularly the youth—to take meaningful action for the environment.
The collaboration seeks to empower young people, foster creativity, and bridge cultural divides while spotlighting the urgent need for sustainable practices to mitigate climate challenges.
The GTA expressed optimism that the project will not only inspire climate consciousness but also promote cultural tourism, positioning the Upper East Region as a hub for innovative collaborations that connect tradition, creativity, and sustainability.
