Caspar Sunday Kampoli, Director of Research and Innovation at the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) and a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Upper East Regional Communications Team, has described the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy as a policy document grounded in economic stability and future growth.

In an interview on A1 Radio following the presentation of the budget in Parliament by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Mr. Kampoli said the government has spent the past year stabilizing an economy it claims was weighed down by heavy debt and severe mismanagement before the NDC took office.

“It’s a budget that is anchored on stability. For the past one year, the NDC government, through Ato Forson as the Finance Minister, has been putting several measures in place to make sure that the economy we inherited—which was on its knees, a junk economy—has been lifted because it was heavily weighed down with mismanaged debts,” he stated.

Mr. Kampoli noted that the measures taken over the past year have led to improvements in key economic indicators, including a stronger cedi, declining inflation and a reduction in the national debt stock—from about GH¢720 billion to GH¢626 billion. He believes this improved macroeconomic environment now provides the foundation for interventions aimed at expanding employment opportunities.

According to him, the 2026 Budget—presented under the theme “Resetting for Jobs, Growth and Economic Transformation”—signals a shift toward creating sustainable jobs, ensuring equitable resource distribution and restoring confidence among citizens who have long questioned whether the economy could meet their needs.

“Now, we are getting to a point where interventions will lead to more jobs being created. So for 2026, it provides sustainability, it provides opportunities for jobs to be created, it provides opportunities for all of us who were doubting—‘can an economy care about me, can public resources be distributed equitably?’ Now is the time. There’s hope, there’s opportunity for jobs to be created. Irrespective of where you are, you can dream that tomorrow things will get better,” he emphasized.

Mr. Kampoli added that the NDC views the budget as one that addresses the concerns of ordinary Ghanaians, particularly youth and women. He said the planned interventions are expected to deliver measurable results, improve livelihoods and offer relief to consumers who have struggled with rising prices in recent years.

“There are interventions that are going to deliver concrete, tangible results. They are going to be impactful. Value will be provided to everybody. There’s prudence, there’s fiscal discipline, there’s efficiency and the economy is working to meet the aspirations of every Ghanaian,” he said.

He further stressed that the budget reflects fiscal discipline, efficiency and a renewed sense of economic direction—one aimed at creating a more stable, inclusive and hopeful future for citizens.
