Yorogo’s annual Tigstaaba Festival is increasingly serving as a driver of community development, with leaders highlighting steady collective progress on the town’s inaugural flagship project, a library complex, touted alongside this year’s celebration.

In a speech read on his behalf at the 2025 Tigstaaba Festival, Chief of Yorogo Naba Johnson Awuni said the library complex symbolizes what the community can achieve through unity, self-investment and sustained commitment to development. The project, he noted, reflects the original vision of the festival as more than a cultural gathering, but a platform for reflection, cohesion and tangible progress.

“This festival was conceived as a means to tell our development story each year,” Naba Awuni said. “The library complex stands as evidence that our collective efforts are transforming Yorogo.”

The festival, now in its sixth edition, was held under the theme “Self-investment today, a sustainable community tomorrow: the role of the Tigstaaba Festival.” According to Naba Awuni, the theme challenges residents, especially those living outside the community, to invest time, resources and skills in projects that will benefit future generations.

Naba Awuni expressed optimism that future editions of the festival would coincide with the completion of additional development projects across all sections of Yorogo, reinforcing shared responsibility and community pride. He commended the Tigstaaba Festival Committee, Yeriba, and individuals who contributed to the realization of the library project.

The chief also called on sub-chiefs and residents from all parts of Yorogo to participate more actively in festival activities, noting that broad involvement is critical to sustaining the initiative. He cautioned against viewing the library as the community’s sole obligation, pointing to other pressing needs that require collective attention amid declining contributions.

Addressing the youth, Naba Awuni described them as the future of Yorogo and urged them to prepare themselves to lead positive change while upholding the community’s values.
