“Why are you recording yourselves?” — CHRAJ questions youth over sextapes

The Upper East Regional Director of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Abdulai Jalaldeen, has cautioned young people against recording their sexual activities, warning of the severe social and emotional consequences if such content is leaked.

Speaking on A1 Radio’s Love Affairs programme, the human rights lawyer said the impact on individuals whose intimate videos circulate online can be devastating and long-lasting.

“I keep asking, why are you taking those videos? You are doing something in private and recording yourselves — for what?” he said.

Jalaldeen noted that he finds it increasingly difficult to understand the motivations behind the trend, particularly among young people.

“I would advise them not to make sextapes. These days, some of the things young people are doing — you cannot even understand what their motivation is,” he said.

He added that individuals whose intimate images or videos are shared without their consent have legal remedies available to seek redress and ensure perpetrators are held accountable.

The discussion on Love Affairs centered on what panelists described as a growing trend of sextape recordings among young people and the associated legal and social implications.
