An organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Talensi, Maxwell Chilembalem, has rejected claims that former government appointees engaged in widespread corruption, describing the allegations as unsubstantiated.
His comments follow remarks by National Democratic Congress (NDC) communicator Francis Adingo, who accused former NPP appointees of misappropriating public funds during a discussion on A1 Radio.
Responding to the claims, Chilembalem questioned the basis of the allegations, arguing that accusations of corruption must be supported by credible evidence. He maintained that it is inappropriate to make such claims publicly without clearly identifying those involved or providing proof.
“You don’t just come on radio and say people stole money when you don’t have evidence to prove it. Who are the people that stole the money?” he said.
Chilembalem also criticized the NDC’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative, suggesting it has not delivered the expected results. He claimed that statements from government officials have raised doubts about figures previously cited in relation to alleged corruption.
“As we speak, the ORAL initiative has failed. Even the Attorney General indicated that the figures quoted were not official but based on individual estimates,” he said.
He stressed the need for accountability in public discourse, urging that allegations of wrongdoing be backed by verifiable evidence rather than general claims.
