The government has handed over a site for the construction of major infrastructure at Bolga-Sherigu Senior High School, marking a significant step toward improving learning conditions after years of inadequate facilities.

Upper East Regional Minister Akamugri Donatus Atanga cut sod for 11 projects at the school’s new site at Sherigu-Basengo.

The projects are being funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) through the efforts of Bolgatanga Central Member of Parliament Isaac Adongo.

The planned developments include a three-storey, 18-unit classroom block; boys’ and girls’ dormitory blocks with courtyards; a two-storey administration and library block; a 12-seater toilet facility; multiple two-bedroom semi-detached staff bungalows; and a three-bedroom headmaster’s bungalow.

Speaking at the ceremony, Atanga urged traditional authorities to ensure proper documentation of school lands to safeguard educational infrastructure and prevent future disputes.

Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive Roland Atanga Ayoo said the projects reflect the government’s commitment to equitable development in Bolga-Sherigu.

“This is the government delivering the needed projects for the people. This is what the community has needed over the years, and it shows a listening government at work,” he said, praising the president, the regional minister and the MP for facilitating the projects.

Headmistress of Bolga-Sherigu SHS, Jeanne Edna Karaah, welcomed the intervention, noting that the school has operated from temporary structures for years, affecting teaching and learning.

She also appealed for the completion of a three-unit classroom block started by the municipal assembly.

Representing the Chief of Bolga-Sherigu, Naba Aluman Apasinaba II, spokesperson Johnson Ayine commended the government, saying the projects would significantly improve secondary education in the community.

“On behalf of the community, we want to express our gratitude to the government for bringing us this project. It is something we have pursued for a very long time,” he said.

He further called on contractors to deliver quality work within agreed timelines and urged residents to support the execution of the projects.

The new infrastructure is expected to transform academic life at Bolga-Sherigu SHS, which has struggled with inadequate facilities since its establishment.
