The assembly member for the Bongo Beo Electoral Area, Emmanuel Akolgo, has urged parents, teachers and community leaders to prioritize the safety and well-being of candidates ahead of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Akolgo warned against risky post-examination activities, citing the deaths of two students during celebrations last year. He cautioned against organizing “pens down” parties, street jams and alcohol-related gatherings, describing them as dangerous.

“No celebration is worth a child’s life,” he said.

He also advised parents and guardians not to provide mobile phones to candidates, noting that such devices can encourage examination malpractice and distract students.

Akolgo encouraged parents to ensure candidates return home safely after each paper and to adopt modest ways of celebrating, including family gatherings or prayers.

Addressing the candidates, he urged them to remain focused and avoid reckless behavior.

“You have worked for nine years. Do not risk it in a single moment,” he said, adding that success in the examination should be the ultimate goal.

He expressed condolences to families affected by last year’s incident and wished all candidates success, urging them to act responsibly and prioritize their safety.
