The Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Isaac Adongo, says he deliberately avoids publicizing personal support he provides to constituents, explaining that such interventions are private matters between him and the beneficiaries.
Speaking to the media after a week-long inspection and handover of projects, Mr. Adongo addressed perceptions that he does not speak enough about his work in the constituency.
“People have misunderstood me, saying that I don’t speak about most of the things that I do,” he said.
“To me, what I don’t speak about are personal interventions. I was not trained to support somebody in need at a very critical time and go on radio to talk about it.”
The MP explained that while he assists many individuals in emergencies, such as paying hospital bills or supporting underprivileged children to stay in school, he considers those acts private.
“I have a lot of those people, and those people are the ones who will speak for me. But I will not be able to stand somewhere and tell people that when this guy was in trouble and was struggling in the hospital, I paid his bills,” he said.
Mr. Adongo said he is more comfortable discussing community-wide projects that benefit the entire constituency. He referenced his recent week-long inspection tour of ongoing and completed projects across Bolgatanga Central, noting that development works are widespread and could take another two weeks to fully cover.
“Those fiscal things that go to the benefit of the entire community, I am comfortable talking about them,” he said. “But when I support a sick child, I support an unprivileged child to go to school, those are not the matters that I discuss in public. They are between me and those people.”
Mr. Adongo added that if beneficiaries choose to publicly share their stories, that is their decision, but it is not his role to announce such acts.
