The Food and Drugs Authority has seized 140 boxes of alcoholic drinks mixed with stimulants in the Upper East Region as part of efforts to protect public health and consumer safety.
The seized products included Bel Ice Vodka Energy Drink and Cody’s Vody Energy Mix, both of which have been banned in Ghana.
According to information shared on the FDA’s Facebook page, the products were confiscated because the combination of alcohol and stimulants can mask intoxication, leading to excessive consumption and serious health risks.
The FDA warned consumers against patronising such drinks and urged the public to remain vigilant when purchasing alcoholic beverages.
“The FDA is working for your safety. These drinks are banned in Ghana because they mask intoxication, leading to overconsumption and health risks. The FDA warns consumers to avoid these products and prioritizes public health safety,” the Authority stated, stressing its commitment to safeguarding public health through continuous monitoring and enforcement activities.
The Authority further advised traders and distributors to comply with regulations governing the sale of alcoholic beverages in the country.
